The Thin Air Press Pump

Q: How do I connect the pump to the valve?

A: The pump simply rests on top of the grey valve. The rubber makes a seal against the pump. It helps to rest the outside of your hand on the vinyl while pumping to stabilize the pump against the valve.

Q: How long does it take to pump the air out of the bag?

A: For the smaller bags (14 x 47” and 26 x 28”) it should take about 50 seconds if you are pumping fairly quickly. The larger bags now come with the Super Pump, which can do the job in half the time.

Q: How much vacuum does the Thin Air Press Pump create?

A: It can produce up to 25HG , or 12.27 PSI (pounds per square inch)

The Thin Air Press Sealing Tape

Q: Why not use a C-Channel or Ziplock® style closure instead of this hard-to-use stuff?

A: We have found that only this tape is robust enough to ensure a 100% airtight seal for the 8 hours of drying time. The C-channel and zipper closures are great for pump systems that cycle on and off continuously, but not for the TAP system.

Q: What is sealing tape made of?

A: It is butyl tape which is actually uncured rubber. Similar to the stuff they seal car windshields with, the tape we use is just sticky enough to open and close, while still makes a strong seal.

Q: How many times can I use this before replacing it?

A: Some customers have reported that they can use a tape seal for 40 – 50 times. Generally about 15 – 20 is a more typical number of uses.

Q: How do I get more uses out of the sealing tape?

A: If you remember to replace the paper strip back onto the tape BEFORE removing your pressing from the bag, it will stay much cleaner. If you remove your project, dragging it over the sticky tape will allow bits of foam, glue and sawdust to stick to it. TIP: when doing your pressing, remove the paper strip and tuck it inside the bag before sealing it. That way, it will be right there for you to replace before removing your pressing.

Thin Air Press Breather Netting

Q: What else can I use if I can’t find my Breather Netting”

A: Use any similar net-like material, as long as it will not adhere to your project if any glue seeps onto it during the process of laminating.

Q: Can I cut this?

A: Yes, you only need enough to cover a portion of your project. Use scissors.
